Practice Overview

Cardiovascular Surgical Associates P.C. (“CVSA”) is a Private Equity backed Advanced Practice Provider (“APP”) Partnership with 3 hub headquarters in Nashville, Denver, Los Angeles, and Scottsdale serving institutions in Arizona, California, Connecticut, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia and Washington through Professional Service Agreements to provide Surgical First Assistant and Second Assistant Operative care in high-risk Cardiothoracic and Vascular surgery. Our competitive advantage is having a breadth of highly skilled providers that assist in complex procedures and provide a level of operative skill and experience required to obtain optimal outcomes for patients facing complex open surgical procedures. In early-2023, we rolled out our long-awaited Spine & Orthopedic Surgery division to provide First- and Second-Assist services to world-class Neurosurgeons and Orthopedic Surgeons. This September, we will launch our fifth hub in Orlando, Florida.

What makes us unique.

We offer both Surgical Physician Assistants (“PA’s”) and Surgical Nurse Practitioners (“NPs”) who thrive and enjoy direct operative care in high-acuity and often, last resort procedures, the opportunity to become an equity owner in a private partnership group - a model typically reserved for physicians. As owners, our providers are able to monetize their skills in a way that traditional W-2 employment, locum tenens work and private contracting cannot provide.

Additionally, our prestigious Clinical Affiliations enable a consistent and wide breadth of challenging cases that enables our partners to earn substantively more other traditional contracting models without the ‘eat what you kill’ mentality. Our providers enjoy the benefits of being part of a private practice that brings cohesiveness and continuous learning, while still applying their clinical operative skills in lifesaving surgical care.

CVSA to enter L1 Trauma Surgery First Assistant Services

Trauma surgery is a continuum-of-care from the scene of an accident to the resuscitation bay to the operating room. Patients depend on highly-skilled teams at each phase of the continuum. CVSA believes it can attract some of the best surgical first assistants who will be reliable and dependable first assistants from the resuscitation bay to the operating room and even in the trauma SICU.

CEO Katherine Stevens says, “L1 Trauma Surgery is a highly-specialized area where APPs are becoming more prominent team members - assisting when patients need to be opened up in the trauma bay, operating room or even in the SICU after surgery. It is an area that we have been exploring with several top-tier trauma centers and we are confident that we can grow this vertical into a prominent pilar of CVSA’s capabilities. We are currently looking for a talented leader to drive this growth initiative from both a clinical and strategic perspective.”
