Open Aortic Surgery (“OAS”)

Our First and Second Assistants have a significant breadth of experience and operative volume in Open Aortic Surgery (“OAS”), which are often fraught with high-risk of operative mortality and morbidity due to certain underlying issues:

  • Multiple previous aortic surgeries due to underlying connective tissue disorders including Marfan Syndrome and EDS-V

  • Older age

  • Renal Failure

  • Malperfusion

  • Extensive aortic tissue fragility due to MFS, EDS, etc.

  • Heart failure (low LVEF)

A sample list of procedures that we assist on in a First- or Second-Assist capacity:

  • Bentall procedure (valve and non-value sparing)

  • Open repairs - Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (‘AAA’) ruptures

  • Thoracic or Ascending Aortic Aneurysm repairs (‘TAA’)

  • Open repairs - Thoracoabdominal Aortic Aneurysm - Descending + Ascending (‘TAAA’) - Types I - V

  • High-Risk Elective Open AAA Repairs for Patients who have had failed stent grafts

  • Aortic Graft Infections (AGI) - Debridement, Re-grafting, and Re-Vascularization

  • Primary or Secondary Aortoesophageal or Aortoenteric Fistulas

  • Vascular Malformations

  • Mycotic Aneurysms
