Complex Neuro, Spine & Orthopedic Trauma Surgery Our First and Second Assistants have a significant breadth of experience in assisting in complex Neuro, Spine and Orthopedic Trauma Surgery for patients with increased operative risk due to the following: Older age Underlying cardiovascular issues and complexities Patient anatomy Underlying pathology (i.e., chordoma tumors, metastatic tumors, etc.) Underlying connective tissue issues such as MFS or EDS-V Magnitude of orthopedic trauma A sample list of procedures that we assist on in a First- or Second-Assist capacity: Open Anterior Approach - Complex spinal fusions Open Anterior Approach (Clamshell or Hemi-Clamshell) - Thoracic Spinal Tumors High-Risk Spinal Fusions High-Risk Total Joint Replacements (Hip, Shoulder, Knee) Concomitant Trauma Surgery - Ortho + Ex-Lap (Damage Control) + Exploratory Thoracotomy Failed Joint Replacements due to Infection - Washout debridement plus reconstruction
